Responsible Tourism Development in Mongolia
Since June 2005 Mongolian Alternatives Center (NGO) has implemented a new approach
to community based tourism in Mongolia. Great consideration has been taken to develop the 'Ger to Ger Bottom-Up Approach' and approperiate social economic linkages between Mongolia's rural nomadic groups, their local communities and public-private sectors.
Our approach has led to the systematic establishment of numerous community routes over three regional provinces and several community information & ticketing centers (CITCs). Rural nomadic groups and their communities are gaining valuable knowledge and skills towards greater local ownership and management. Instead of competing with tour operators, our communities are actively learning how to cooperate and benefit from mobilizing 'ethical' partnerships within private-public sectors while maintaining their independance. Leading by Example, read more about our local herders and their communties.
The area below is being developed to highlight how Ger to Ger Partnerships can lead to greater mutual benefit and positive change.
In the future all cultural eco tourism, responsible tourism, mongolian sustainable tourism development, and mongolia rural community development success stories will be updated in our online: Mongolia's Community Based Eco Tourism Development Blog

Arhangai's Tsetserleg Opens Official Ger to Ger Community Based Tourism and Ticketing Center

Single service providers from Tsetserleg, Ih Tamir, Under Ulaan and other soums were invited to attend the official opening of their community based office. This office (Fairfield Cafe) will handle local databasing of services of Provincial info, ticketing and greater community tourism management.
Ger to Ger is establishing its 'bottom up' regional information network that begins at herder and soum levels and then passed to its Provincial Community Information Ticketing Center (CITC) and then to the Regional CITC in Ulaanbaatar.
Travelers and tour operators can now directly inquiry and purchase local services through Arhangai community office and/or through Ulaanbaatar.
Opportunities for non Ger to Ger community based tourism initiatives. Whether you are a rural community, NGO, donor organization or even tour operator, Ger to Ger has an open door policy. Ger to Ger supports other initiatives in Mongolia through technical assistance, trainings and/or market linkage development. Feel free to visit us at our office and we are more than delighted to consult with you about partnership methods.
