Terelj National Park
Winter Travel for December: Winter Fun with Nomadic Families
On this nomadic winter adventure you will enjoy the pre-festive cheerfulness of nomads playing games in winter like ice bowling and making fire on the frozen Terelj River. You will visit nomadic families in the region and have the opportunity to travel with a nomadic guide and enjoy beautiful winter scenery of Terelj National Park by horse and hot water bottle heated ox cart with warm blankets.

Payments
Pre-Departure Booking and Travel Orientation Fee: $25
Community Fee for 4 Days/ 3 Nights: $215 per person
Public bus to Terelj village: $1.50
Optional jeep hire to first Ger and pickup (per car, two way): $90-$100
Note: Jeep hire can be divided among number of persons traveling together |
| Day 1 |
Playing traditional ankle bone game with the family: Our local guide will receive you at last bus stop of Terelj Protected Area. From there, you will go by ox cart or horses to his home that is 7 kilometers north of Terelj river. Once you arrive at Mr. Chuka’s nomadic dwelling commonly known as a ‘ger’, his family will serve you lunch and hot milk tea. After lunch, you will have plenty of time to learn the rules (on the spot) and play ankle bone game with family. There are many different games that can be played with ankle bones such as horse racing, shooting bones game, and making a turtle by bones etc. The family will then serve you dinner and hot milk tea and you will overnight in his warm traditional felt Ger.

| Day 2 |
Traditional 'ankle bone shooting' and 'ice bowling' on frozen river: After your breakfast, Mr. Chuka will guide you to Mr. Ganzorig’s family by horse back or ox cart for 15km. At Mr.Ganzorig’s family, you will be served hot tea and lunch, and afterwards, you can play “ankle bone shooting” game on frozen Terelj river with the family. Later, your journey will continue by horse back or ox cart to your overnight family, Mr. Bold’s ger that is 5km away. When you arrive at his family in the late afternoon, Mrs. Battsetseg and Mr. Bold will show you how to ice bowling and you can have a friendly competition with them. In the evening, you will have dinner with family members and will have your second overnight.

| Day 3 |
Bonfire dancing with nomads on frozen river: After breakfast with Mr. Bold’s family, you can try to herd livestock and milk their cow. You have an opportunity to learn how to stitch Mongolian traditional garments, try on some Mongolian costumes and take a few amazing photos. In the late morning, a herder will guide you to Mrs. Amarjargal’s family by ox cart or horse for 5km. Mrs. Amarjargal will serve you hot tea and lunch. Later, you have an opportunity to make a bonfire on frozen river and dance with the family that will warm you up for your next leg of your journey. After your lunch, Mr. Bold will take you to your last overnight family at Mrs.Uranchimeg’s ger that is 8km away. When you arrive at her home, you will be served dinner and hot milk tea and will have your third and last overnight.

| Day 4 |
Learn the art of making water holes in the frozen river: After your breakfast with the family, you can help her to make water holes in the frozen Terelj River to collect water. In the afternoon, you will be served a farewell lunch and tea. After your farewell lunch, Mrs.Uranchimeg’s son or husband will take you to Terelj river bank by ox cart or horse for 1km where you will await your bus or private vehicle hire.
