Winter Calander for October: Winter Preperation with Nomadic Families

On this nomadic winter adventure you will experience and learn how to prepare a nomadic camp for winter. You will visit nomadic families in the region and have the opportunity to travel with a nomadic guide and enjoy beautiful winter scenery of Terelj National Park by horse and hot water bottle heated ox cart with warm blankets.


Payments
Pre-Departure Booking and Travel Orientation Fee: $25
Community Fee for 3 Days/ 2 Nights: $130 per person
Public bus to Terelj village: $1.50
Optional jeep hire to first Ger and pickup (per car, two way): $90 - $100 
Note: Jeep hire can be divided among number of persons traveling together
Day 1

Travel to your first nomadic family: You will arrive at Mrs. Uranchimeg’s Ger where she will serve you tea and lunch. After lunch, you will have a chance to learn how to warm a winter shelter with wet dung to ensure that livestock stay healthy throughout the cold winter. Later, a herder will guide you to your overnight family by ox cart for 8 kilometers. Overnight Ger: You will have an overnight at Mr. Ganzorig’s Ger and he will serve you dinner and hot milk tea.

 

 Day 2

Prepare fodder and hay for livestock: Nomadic breakfast will be served by Mr. Ganzorig and after that you can learn how to prepare fodder and hay for livestock.  Later, your journey will continue by horse back or ox cart to next overnight ger with Mr. Bold and his family that is 5km away. When you arrive at his family, you will be welcomed with tea and lunch. In the late afternoon, Mrs. Battsetseg Bold will show you how to prepare small goats and sheep for winter with felt coverings to keep them warm. In the evening, you will have dinner with family members and have an enjoyable evening.


 Day 3

Collect fallen wood from riverbeds with the family: After breakfast with Mr. Bold’s family, you can try to herd livestock and milk their cow. You will also have an opportunity to learn how to stitch Mongolian traditional garments, try on some Mongolian costumes and take a few amazing photos.  In late afternoon, a herder will guide you to Mrs Amarjargal’s Ger that is 5km away. Mrs. Amarjargal will serve you hot tea and cookies upon your arrival. Later, you have an opportunity to help her to collect fallen wood from riverbeds that is used for firewood. After your farewell lunch, Mr.Bold will take you to Terelj river bank by ox cart or horse for 1km where you will await your bus or private vehicle hire.

As our project office is working hard to develop responsible community based tourism in Mongolia, payment of the booking fee allows us to provide this important service. Our office team will assist withlogisitcs of your travel with the rural communities and provide you a pre-travel orientation so you stay in Mongolia is productive, some services include:
