Mongolia Wildlife Reserve and Conservation Trip specializes in highlighting the county’s broad diversity of wildlife that ranges from domestic to the internationally famed migratory birds that temporarily use the country as a rest stop along their global travels. Though to truly appreciate what Mongolia has to offer one must travel to Mongolia at different seasons and across the entire country. GER to GER’s wildlife program has been designed with the traveler in mind, which often includes a variety of limitations (budget, time, etc.). This itinerary will take you to Terelj National Park, Gun Galuut Natural Reserve and Khustai National Park. At each location you will have opportunities to hike, trek and even go horseback riding through the National Parks. You will be amazed by the wonderful blend of geographical terrains as you experience both the wildlife habitats as well as Mongolia’s nomadic family’s lifestyles.
Day One – Overland Travel to visit a Mongolian Nomadic Family Located at Terelj National Park for an Afternoon of Horseback Riding and/or Traveling by Ox Cart (L, D – Overnight in extra Mongolian Nomadic Ger): Today you will traveling overland towards the Terelj National Park, located approx.. two hours NE of Ulaanbaatar City. Upon arrival you will be greeted by one our Park’s local nomadic family members to which they will assist you to pack your luggage and transport you by horseback and/or ox cart across the river to their summer pasture. Once you arrive at the family’s nomadic ger they will prepare and welcome you with a hot nomadic lunch and traditional tea before spending the afternoon learning the art and techniques of preparing Mongol horses and ox carts that are commonly used for rural travel.
Afterwards, you will begin the 12-kilometer horseback riding trip along forested river valley across the Dugui Stagaani steppe where you will arrive at Mr. Bold’s nomadic family. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with a hot nomadic dinner and tea to which Mr. Bold’s children will show you how to play traditional Mongolian games with sheep’s anklebones (Shagai) before overnighting in the family’s extra nomadic ger.
Day Two – Experience Nomadic Lifestyle before the Horseback Riding Trip to Chingis Khan’s Statue (B, L, D – Overnight in extra Mongolian Nomadic Ger): In the early morning you will have an opportunity to milk a cow with the family before your nomadic breakfast. While you are staying at their home, you will have an opportunity to practice some archery before the farewell nomadic lunch. Afterwards, you will begin the 15-kilometer horseback trip towards the Chingis Khan Statue. Upon arrival at the destination, you will have dinner and stay overnight at the camp.
Day Three – Morning Trek to Chingis Khan’s Statue followed by Overland Trip to Gun Galuut Nature Reserve (B, L, D – Overnight at Gun Galuut): After breakfast, you will begin your trekking trip towards the Chingis Khan’s Statue where you will have plenty of time for photography. Afterwards, you will continue your journey to the Gun Galuut Nature Reserve where you will have lunch at the Steppe Nomads Ger Camp. This afternoon, you will begin your day trek hiking around Baits mountain where you can observe and take photos of the endangered wild mountain sheep. Throughout the Reserve there are many observation points to view a number of rare bird species including the White Napped Crane, Black Stork, Swan Goose, Whooper Swan, etc. In the evening time you will return back to the Gun Galuut Camp where you will have your evening dinner and overnight.
Day Four – Overland Trip to the Internationally Famed Hustain Nuruu Protected Reserve (B, L, D – Overnight in extra Mongolian Nomadic Ger): After breakfast you will travel overland to Hustain Nuruu Protected Reserve located in Tuv Aimag (Central Province). Upon arrival at the camp you will have lunch to which you will quickly visit to Khustai Park’s Information Center (see the flora and fauna exhibits) before continuing onwards to Hustain Pike. At this location you will be visiting the natural habitat of the internationally famous “Przewalski” wild horses (Takhi) followed by a wonderful trek along the Moltsog sand dunes.
Day Five – Return back to Ulaanbaatar for Shopping and an Evening Show (B, D): After breakfast, you will drive back to Ulaanbaatar City, check-in to your hotel, get cleaned up and enjoy the afternoon shopping. In the evening, we will all gather to have our farewell dinner after the Tumen Ekh Folk Art Concert.
